PORTUGAL CROWNED CHAMPIONS OF EUROPE

All hail the new crown king of Europe!.Portugal came from behind as underdogs of the championship to spoil the party for France on home soil, denying them their third European title and clinching their first ever European championship all thanks to Eder extra time powerful strike.

Eder celebrating after scoring
This feat was achieved without their captain and talisman Cristiano Ronaldo who was forced out of the game in the first half with a knee injury.France has won the 10 previous meeting between them and Portugal, that makes this win even more memorable for the boys from LISBON.

The game had earlier been billed as a battle between Antoine Greizmann and Ronaldo but the battle ended for Ronaldo after a robust tackle from Dimitri Payet forced him out of play.Ronaldo in tears was stretchered out of the pitch.

Ronaldo was out of the game but the fans couldnt stop chanting his name. With Ronaldo out of the contest,Portugal needed another hero and that hero was found in the goalkeeper Rui Patricio who throughout the game was very consistent in thwarting france. He made alot of saves, saving a couple of fierce shots from Sissoko, who was outstanding throughout the game for france.

Twelve years ago Ronaldo featured in the final of the championship hosted by country at the age of 18years making him the youngest player ever to feature in the finals, that same match made him shade tears as they lost to Greece on home soil. The win is the crowning moment of his career as an international player.

France came into the game as the favorites given the arrays of star they parade and their form so far in the championship. Also giving them an edge over Portugal is the home advantage, with the full support of their teeming fans inside the stade de france. But Portugal  fought hard against all odds to earn the win.

Portugal will forever be grateful for that powerful late strike from Eder that handed them the trophy for the first time ever.
