UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITES



1)  PERGAMON ALTER-BERGAMA,TURKEY

The site dates back as far as the fourth century B.C.The city of Pergamon has a long history of changing leadership hands,ruled at various points by Greeks,Persians and the Romans.Pergamon was an important cultural site during helleninstic Attalid Dynasty and was capital of empire from 281-133 B.C.The library of Pergamon (whose ruins still stands till date)was one of the greatest libraries in the world.


2) RANI-KI-VAV-INDIA
                 

Rani-ki-vav(the queens stepwell) was built in honor of Bhimdev 1,a ruler of the Solanki dynasty in western India,by widowed wife in 1050A.D.It was built to look like an inverted temple,having seven level descending downwards and having a pool at the bottom.It is one of the largest remaining of its kind ,it is an important example of the stepwell built in India beginning in the third millennium B.C.,which came to be architectural wonder.They are carvings on the wall ad nearly 2,000 statues.


3) OSUN-OSHOGBO SACRED GROVE-NiGERIA



Osun-Oshogbo sacred grove is a grove forest located along the banks of the Osun River just outside the city.It is dedicated to the River goddess .The Osun-Oshogbogrove is among the last of the sacred forests which actually adjoin the edges of most Yoruba cities before the vigorous civilization .It is a world heritage site.






4)CHRIST THE REDEEMER STATUE-RIO DE JANIERO-BRAZIL

This breathe taking masterpiece is the face of Rio de Janiero in Brazil.Built in 1931.It is one of the most significant land mark in the world till date.it is visited by millions from all wlks of life.Whose idea was it?It was first proposed in the mid 1850s by a catholic priest named Pedro Maria Boss.The request was initially turned down but it was later proposed by the catholic circle RIO and was finally built in  1931.Christo Redentor is it is known in Portuguese is a world symbol for peace.it stands 38 meters tall and weighing 1.145 tonnes.It is also one of the world heritage sites.
